We love baking cookies. It’s a holiday tradition I’ve adopted (even though I’m Jewish) because I love it so much. Last weekend, my oldest was seeing Wicked with Adi, so it was my turn to spend quality time with our youngest. Obviously we baked.
My favorite cookies to make are sugar cookies, because you can double (or triple) the dough recipe and create so many special cookies. It’s also what I make gingerbread houses with—it tastes better. But when you’re baking a lot of treats, it’s important to diversify and make some easy recipes so you don’t go crazy.
As you get ready for your favorite holiday traditions—whether they include baking or not!—these recipes are the perfect way to get into the holiday spirit and spend time with your family.
And if you have my cookbook, here’s a little more inspo for your cookie swap. (If you don’t, it makes a great Christmas present. It’s only $15 right now! Start dropping hints…)

We just launched our latest collab at Baked by Melissa—it might be our cutest one yet.
I went to Dallas for 12 hours on Wednesday and packed everything in this bag (including carrot sticks, Green Goddess, and a chicken salad sandwich 😂).
Start with a double batch of sugar cookie dough and royal icing to make these fun cookies…
…then use the rest of the dough to make these cuties.

When you need a break from baking AND an activity for your kids (this one was a bonus recipe a while back, and still a fave).
You can use any candy you have for these; this time of year I love to use M&Ms in festive colors.
My aunt used to make these all the time. They’re so easy and a nice variation of regular blondies.
