My New Fave Soup Trick
It’s a sock (yes really)
My aunt called me a few weeks ago and told me I’ve been making soup all wrong. She said I need to get these: soup socks.
As soon as I tried it, I knew she was onto something. The resulting broth was silky smooth, without any of the grittiness you sometimes get from adding spices and seasonings to homemade broth. It’s a great way to make flavorful soup, especially if you’ve ever forgotten when making broth that you want to keep the liquid in the pot and not its contents. Fill the sock with chicken, herbs, onions, celery, and more, then pull it out when you’re ready to eat. I like to keep the carrots separate because I like carrots in my soup. Do what makes you happy.
My other fave soup tools (that make great gifts!): this spatula (10% off with code MELISSA10), this pot, this ladle with a skimmer.
Here’s what’s on the menu this week:
Chicken Soup in a Bag
Split Pea Soup
Creamy Chicken Soup
Chicken Soup in a Bag
A delicious way to use up leftover veggies and grains in your fridge (rice, spaghetti, etc.). I sear the chicken in the pot, then add the carrots and a bag filled with incredible ingredients to infuse the broth with flavor. So good.
Split Pea Soup
It’s not pretty, but it is delicious. Adi LOVES split pea soup, so I made this for him. It’s great when you want something heartier and comforting, and you can use whatever meat you have or love. I used beef salami from Trader Joe’s; it’s also great with bacon or ham.
Creamy Chicken Soup
This is THE soup to give you an added dose of protein. Super rich, dairy-free, and filled with anti-inflammatory ingredients. It’s packed with chicken and egg, plus rice to make it extra satisfying. As leftovers, it thickens up almost like a porridge or congee…an ideal breakfast for those who prefer savory foods, or you can add broth (or water) to it to thin it out again when you reheat.

Thanks for the great recipes! Can the creamy chicken soup be frozen?
